The End is in Site

And with a huge sigh of relief the door to my wallet has been closed to Google Ads. I can understand the principles of this class was trying to teach me, but one big lesson is that even with as little start up as this style of business requires… you still need to spend money to make money. When you are in a position where you have no money to spend as a part of the start up, then you can’t get anywhere. I think that’s one of the reasons how and why there is such a rampant difference between the rich and the poor. Those that have resources available, and those that don’t. Of course, that’s not all of it. There’s also the desire to succeed that people either have or don’t. If you’re trapped being poor and have no desire to get a head, that’s fine… enjoy your squalor. If you have desire, and the means… well, we know those types. Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Steve Jobs… It’s the other two categories that bother me. Those with the resources, and have no desire to improve, the entitled who feel everything should be given to them on a platter. And those without resources that don’t have a chance to implement their ideas and desires due to circumstance.
But, I guess that’s just part of what perseverance is. Biding your time until your opening comes. Your one shot, your one opportunity. Mine will come… soon.

Corona and Snake Oil

This week the country had to acknowledge Covid-19. Businesses closed down; restaurants are doing carry-out/delivery only, people are asked to self-quarantine. Thus far, the only impact all of this has had on my life has been that when I went to do a Sam’s Cub run, my wife’s beverage of choice, Diet Coke, was sold out.
I feel blessed that the impact to my family and I is so minor, thus far. It gives me more time to work on schoolwork. This week has been all about sales skills with everyone’s favorite product, digital snake oil. Learning the tricks of the digital world to artificially enhance your positioning through less than moral and ethical tactics. I guess even if I choose not to participate in such chicanery, it’s good to have a lesson on it so I know what’s being done out there in the virtual wild west by my competitors.
I mean granted, yes. Not all the information presented has been of the shady variety. General advice to just work on the general quality level of your website/business is good. Setting up Social Media accounts to be able to interact with your audience is going to be a beneficial step, so long as you don’t come across insincere and just want to shill your product.

Successful?!?!

While going through and setting up to work on this assignment, I was skimming over the instructions (the weekly assignments typically have the same instructions every week, it’s good to double check no curveballs are thrown at ya) and while it was the same, “Write a blog post, post it to the internet for the world to see.”
But I noticed something specific in the instructions. “Reflect upon your learning experiences from this week as well as your thoughts and ideas about creating and running a successful online business.
One of the things I can reflect about this week and the website, is that I honestly don’t feel like it’s very successful online business. Sure, it’s trying to be. But it just will take a lot of work.
I have plans, and I want to implement the plans, I just need time to implement them. Sadly, I don’t feel like I’ll have time to implement them until after the semester is over. But, this is still a learning experience and process I’ll be able to use to help the later application of those ideas when Live On The Couch 2.0 rolls out.
